Suffolk County Council have now published their Suffolk Disability Sport & Physical Activity Strategy for 2014-2019. The Sport, Leisure and Culture Consultancy were commissioned in February 2014 to develop a Disability Sport and Physical Activity Strategy for Suffolk County Council, and will now be jointly developing and delivering a Think Tank with the Council to share the journey and findings with key stakeholders and partners on 27th February 2015.
Suffolk County Council and key agencies across Suffolk launched its Most Active County programme in February 2012. It provides a framework for partners to work together to create, promote and commission sport and physical activity opportunities that support accessible healthy lifestyles to flourish in Suffolk. The County has since achieved a 2.2% growth in participation in sport and active recreation. However, it has identified that participation rates for disabled people in Suffolk at 16.5% are lower than both the national (18.3%) and regional (18.5%) averages.
SLC’s involvement was spearheaded by Associate Jenny Kempster, an expert in sports development and disability sport. With over twenty years’ experience in sports development, Jenny has led on and completed a diverse range of projects with national and regional significance. The published Strategy and Delivery Plan can be found in our Resource Centre.
