West Lindsey District Council has comwest-lindsey-logomissioned The Sport, Leisure and Culture Consultancy (SLC) to provide support for the procurement of a long-term partner to operate its leisure facilities.

The existing leisure management contract comes to an end in April 2018 and the Council has identified the procurement of a new contract as being one of their major priorities. By starting the process early, the Council has allowed sufficient time to develop clearly defined required outcomes for the contract. The contract is likely to be for at least 10 years and the Council wish to develop a service that can contribute to wider sport and physical activity outcomes across West Lindsey. The project aims to:

  • Design a service that contributes to West Lindsey District Council’s wider corporate objectives by extending the reach and impact of the service
  • Invest in new facilities at West Lindsey Leisure Centre
  • Find a partner that can help assist the Council in developing a new leisure centre in the district
  • Improve the sport and physical activity outreach service Ensure the long term sustainability of the service and reduce the leisure subsidy.

SLC’s involvement is being led by David Rushton, Managing Consultant who commented: “We are delighted to be supporting West Lindsey District Council with this procurement. They have demonstrated a clear desire to make the new leisure contract work harder to deliver wider social outcomes. We want to help create a service which reaches far beyond the walls of the leisure centres and engages with all sections of the community and find a leisure partner that can assist with developing facilities in the district”.

Karen Whitfield, the Council’s Leisure & Cultural Services Team Manager said: “We are delighted to be working with SLC at what is an exciting time for the Council’s leisure services. We have earmarked £7.5 million to invest in West Lindsey Leisure Centre and to develop new facilities in the district. We are looking for a leisure partner that can help make the most of this investment for the benefit of our local residents”. The first stage of the procurement will be a market interest day in early autumn 2016.
