Boost for sport and leisure activities
Malvern Hills District Council has appointed the Sport, Leisure and Culture Consultancy (SLC) to develop a Sport and Leisure Strategy by March 2014 to provide a clear approach to its role in supporting sustainable sport and leisure opportunities within the district. The strategy will aim to maximise opportunities to encourage healthy and active lifestyles as well as define the need for future sport provision in the district based on the underlying principles of partnership, empowerment, local action and rigour.
With a number of new major developments within the district, the strategy will seek to support leveraging investment to finance sustainable local sporting and leisure infrastructure projects. The strategy will also provide a clear way forward to enable sustainable provision of the district’s main leisure facilities that demonstrate they are meeting identified needs, now and in the future.
Councillor Phil Grove, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at MHDC said: “We are looking to develop a strategy that best serves the community and which ensures a high quality service for residents in the future. We want to encourage more people in the community to take up sport, adopt a healthier lifestyle and generally improve their overall wellbeing.”
Duncan Wood-Allum, Director of SLC said: “SLC is delighted to have been selected by the council to support them in the development of their Sport and Leisure Strategy and we are looking forward to engaging with a number of key stakeholders and partners over the next six months.”
