Slough Borough Council has agreed a new 10-year partnership with leisure operator Everyone Active to manage and help develop its sport and leisure facilities. The new contract will include the operation of a new leisure centre for Slough to replace Montem Leisure Centre along with other major public leisure facilities including Slough Ice Arena, Langley Leisure Centre and Salt Hill Park Leisure Facility.
The service has been re-designed to help deliver the Council’s Leisure Strategy by specifying a clear requirement for Everyone Active to deliver a new programme of outreach activities designed to help tackle inactivity in local communities. Despite this widening of the service and required outcomes, the Council has managed to secure future savings of c. £13M over the 10-year period.
Slough Borough Council and Everyone Active are committed to proactively address health inequalities in the Borough with the aim of getting residents more active. The Council has clearly demonstrated this by investing £57m into their leisure facilities with the new leisure centre expected to be complete in 2019 and refurbishments of the Ice Arena, Langley Leisure Centre and Salt Hill Park due for completion in 2018.
The Sport, Leisure & Culture Consultancy (SLC) has proudly supported Slough Borough Council throughout the procurement process, led by Managing Consultant Toby Kingsbury.
Toby said of SLC’s involvement in the project, “This new partnership is a great example of how a local authority can make significant revenue savings and improve wider health and wellbeing outcomes through investment in the right facilities and through effective procurement. We are delighted with the result for Slough Borough Council and this procurement demonstrates that it is possible to focus on outcomes whilst delivering substantial savings.”
Alison Hibbert, Head of Culture and Sport said, “Everyone Active is an excellent company with a proven track record in providing leisure services across the country. Our aim is for more Slough residents to be more active, more often and the vision of Everyone Active matches this perfectly. The Sport, Leisure and Culture Consultancy have proven to be an invaluable support throughout the procurement process and deserve high praise for working with Slough Borough Council to achieve such a fantastic result, both financially and operationally. I look forward to working in partnership with Everyone Active and seeing their exciting plans for activities and the centres themselves”.
